Meet Our Team
Mark Rummel, M.D.
Mark is a board-certified Vascular Surgeon by the American Board of Medical Specialties. He received his medical degree from Eastern Virginia Medical School in 1998 and afterwards completed a five year residency in General Surgery at the Eastern Virginia Graduate School of Medicine. In 1995, he went on to complete a Fellowship in Vascular Surgery at Hahnemann University Hospital in Philadelphia. Mark temporarily moved to Phoenix in 2004 to study Endovascular surgery under Dr. Ted Dietrich at Arizona Heart Hospital.
Since moving to Kalamazoo in late 2004, Mark has served as the Medical Director of Vascular Surgery at Bronson Hospital and the Chair of Vascular Surgery at Ascension Borgess. Currently, he is a member of the Peer Review and Credentials Committees and is the Chief of Staff elect at Ascension Borgess Hospital.
Mark’s initial interest in bioidentical hormone replacement stemmed from his office staff. Several staff members were already receiving treatment and praised BioTe for relief of many symptoms that were caused by hormone deficiencies. Although he was initially skeptical, he went on to investigate bioidentical hormone replacement therapy and found it was safe and effective. Both he and his wife, Amy are now BioTe patients themselves.
Susie Bauman, R.N., N.P.
Susie Bauman is a Board-Certified Nurse Practitioner with over 10 years’ experience and a 2009 graduate of The University of Michigan. As a Nurse Practitioner, Susie specializes in both vascular surgery as well as hormone replacement therapy. Susie became interested in hormone imbalance as a means of disease prevention, symptom management and promotion of healthy aging. This is just another reason why Susie has been involved with Advanced Health and Wellness since its inception. As an advocate for her patient’s healthcare needs, Susie empowers her patients to be an active participant in their care.
Susie is certified in the BioTE method and appreciates the methods personalized approach to each patient. She also has a developing interest in nutrition and the concept that our food is medicine. In her free time, Susie enjoys running and cycling.
Since hormone optimization, she has noticed improved sleep, and an improved muscle recovery time after endurance exercise, and an increased overall energy. Susie looks forward to helping you reach your healthcare goals.
Sarah Shealy
Having worked in the healthcare field for over 14 years, Sarah is continually fascinated by the physical and psychologist complexities of the human body. She has been an integral part of the Advanced Vascular Surgery team since 1996 and is the Office Coordinator for Advanced Health and Wellness Center. Sarah is dedicated to providing each patient and their family with compassionate care and wants to ensure that their medical experience is as easy as possible. Sarah is truly gifted and is recognized for her experience, compassion, multilingual skills and natural ability to build lasting relationships with both patients and staff.
Jonathan Owens
Johnathan Owens received his R.M.A degree from Ross Medical Education Center. He has been a part of the Advanced Vascular team for over six years and has now extended his role as the Lead Medical Assistant for Advanced Health and Wellness Center.
Johnathan developed a strong sense of devotion for the medical field over the years and has a special interest in the research being done on BHRT. Conditions such as mood changes, irritability, mental fog, maintaining muscle mass, night sweats and hot flashes are just some of the complaints that he discusses with patients and helps the doctors resolve.
On a personal note, Johnathan was having trouble sleeping and experienced occasional headaches and joint pain. After starting BHRT he is now sleeping more soundly and has resolved his other symptoms as well. He feels that BioTe, along with his nutraceutical regimen, has made a big difference both physically and mentally.
Amy Rummel
Amy and Mark met in Pennsylvania while she was working in New York City as an assistant producer at a record label and a musician. The industry didn’t allow for many healthy lifestyle choices so, in 1993, she started exercising on her own. She discovered she had a natural talent for endurance exercise while training to compete in triathlon. Her fitness quickly accelerated and she began to consistently win regional races. She became a nationally ranked triathlete within her first year of competing. By the year 1999 she was competing on a semiprofessional level and was ranked in several National and World Championship races.
Today, Amy is still an exercise guru with experience in sports nutrition and is a USA Triathlon certified coach. She said BioTe has been a miracle for her as an ‘older’ athlete. Amy stated that she has not only found relief from typical premenopausal symptoms, but has also seen improvements in her strength, flexibility and ability to recover from hard workouts.
Currently, Amy is also finishing her MBA degree at Western Michigan University and is helping Advanced Health and Wellness with administrative duties and marketing.
